Project 3

Story

Victoria is just a regular student at Hunter college trying to get to class in time. However, not checking her email before leaving for school has proven to be a bad idea.

Museum trip

For the museum trip assignment I went with the class to MOMA to look at the exibhits on the 2nd and 6th floor. Personally I was a little puzzled about what we should be looking for in order to complete this assignment, so I just choose 2 items that caught my eye.

First, was this piece named "end of broadcast" by Wolfgang Tilmans. This piece features an enlarged printed image of TV pixels without a transmission due to censorship. Although I understand that this piece has a deeper important meaning, to me it caught my eye due to how similar it looks to a close up of fabric (my favorite medium to work with). The similarity of both mediums makes me think about how everything in the world is connected at some level.

End of Broadcast - Wolfgang Tilmans
Close-up fabric - Anna Braga

From the 2nd floor section, my favorite image was called "Chicago" by Harry Callahan. This picture features a great use of the rule of thirds as we learned in class. With the subject being in one of the thirds of the image and a space ahead of her that creates a sence of expectation. The wind also created a nice smooth flow to the fabric from her hat (which also attracted me to this image in particular).

Chicago - Harry Callahan
In the end I imagine that the trip to the MOMI would have been more relatable to the class subject but I'm glad that I was able to connect some of the media works in the museum to my own media works.

Blog 3 - Scene Analysis

Scene analysis
Scene: Goodbye 10th, hello 11th
Series: Doctor Who
By: BBC

Set up:
In this scene The Doctor (played by David Tennent at the beginning and Matt Smith by the end) is an alien whose species (called Time Lord)at the time of death regenerates into a new version of him/her-self whit the ability of not only looking different, looking younger/older or changing gender during the regeneration process. However, after regenerating a time lord will have a new personality. In this scene The Doctor's 10th life cycle ends after having radiation poisoning while saving his friend's father.

Analysis:
The scene starts with special effects showing the earth and the Doctor's spaceship (TARDIS) as the Doctor is leaving earth to avoid hurting anyone during his regeneration process.
Dramatic non-diegetic music plays as we see the Doctor walking around the TARDIS for the last time as his 10th self. The framing keeps part of the central controls of the TARDIS covering parts of the screen as the TARDIS has been with the Doctor throughout his 10 lives. As the Doctor stops and takes deep breaths, the camera tracks in closer to show how reluctant he is to "go". He then says his last line "I don't wanna go" and as the special glowing effects start through his body, the music becomes louder and the camera cuts to a mid shot showing the Doctor with the TARDIS central controls again. The camera cut backs to a close-up for one last good look at his painful expression as the effects get more intense and the music becomes louder.
Shots of the explosions in the TARDIS and of the ship's exterior show the distraction being caused by him resisting his transformation process. The camera then pulls away from the Doctor to show how the TARDIS is getting destroyed by all this powerful explosions.
A close-up reveals the new Doctor's face as 10th's face mergers into 11th's. The music stops and the camera does a low angle full body shot to show the new disoriented Doctor as he inspects his new body. A series of close ups from the front and back of the character add to the confusion of the situation as well as the moving of the camera and the chaos on the TARDIS including shots where flames are on screen in front of the character.
The sound of an explosion as well as the shaking of the TARDIS reminds the new Doctor that his ship is crashing, he then proceeds to attempt to land the TARDIS. Special effects animation are once more used to show the TARDIS crashing into the planet earth. New music slowly returns as the 11th Doctor jumps around the TARDIS, the camera is very mobile on this part following the character and the mood of this scene. A final shot from the top shows the Doctor saying his new catch phrase "Geronimo" as the image spins in circles as the TARDIS is out of control.
This scene compresses the sadness of seeing the 10th Doctor dying and his reluctance to die, with the excitement of the 11th Doctor's birth. The change from the painful music to its climax, to the lack of music followed by the new upbeat tune helps set the mood for the scene. This is further developed by the range of camera movement starting from long smooth shoots where the camera moved delicately to fast cuts, strange angles (reverse of 180 rule on multiple cases) and jumpy movement, all to reflect the personalities and feelings of the characters.
Personally, this is the sadest moment in the entire series, as we see selfless character facing his own death alone knowing that he will just become someone else completely different.

Sound walk

I do not enjoy taking walks without a purpose so for this assignment I decided to take a small trip from my home to a Mc Donald's to buy their St Patrick's day special milkshake.
I went for this walk Monday night as people were preparing for the big "blizzard" that happened on Tuesday. On my way there i passed by multiple people talking their sidewalks, dragging their snow cleaning supplies home (shovels dragging on the floor, bags of salt being dragged). My boots made crunching sounds when I stepped on the salted sidewalks. Only a few cars passed by most people were already home preparing themselves.
Mc Donald's was mostly desert other than 2 elder ladies chatting up in a corner drinking their coffee. I ordered my shake and waited, the tv was on showing some Spanish show I could not understand so I just stayed by the counter and waited for the noisy machines to do their job. Eventually it was ready and I could make my way home.
The milkshake was not exactly how I expected, it tasted like toothpaste and chocolate (not in a good way) so I stoped on a pizza shop and ordered a pizza to bring home to share with my my dad and my fiancĂ©e who was coming over for dinner. The pizza shop was empty as well, I enjoyed the sound os the dough being slapped and stretched on the counter packing "flop" and "poff" sounds. There were no other sounds around, it's really strange to see the city so quiet.
On my way home with my hot tasty pizza all I could hear was the crushing sound from my boots and the buzzing of my phone as my mom sent a billion messages and called 20 times to ask me why I wasn't home after she randomly decided to stop by the house without a warning.
At home I heard countless complaining on how I made her worry along with my cat meowing because he smelled the pizza and wanted to eat a piece of it.

Project 1: Define a Space

Our first full length project was to define a space.
We went around Hunter trying to find things that were broken/creepy to try to define Hunter as a "creepy" place.
This video was made by me and Anthony Melendez.

Personal Statement

Hello! I'm Anna,
By week days I'm a student but by weekends I'm a cosplayer also known online as ElectroCosplay.

I create costumes based on fictional characters in my best attempts to bring them to life in the real world.
Creation process overview (White Sebonzakura Miku)

In order to achieve this task I work with different materials, from the finest silks to brute wood and metals. Sowing and sanding away until I can bring fantasy to real life. I have also created a few character inspired costumes of my own personal design based on the character's original looks, and I still have some original designs I have yet to bring into the real world.

International cosplay day 2016 award

My work has been featured in a few cosplay related blogs, as well as small online interviews, a live televised interview for the Japanese channel WoWoW, and magazine features in both CosplayNYC and Cosplay Culture. I have also won 2 awards so far from the International Cosplay Day and Nerdy Ninja TV.
Although I don't enter many competitions, I plan to start entering more in the future.

Montage I made for the Media 150 class using one of my cosplay photos

Characters that inspire me are characters I feel that i can connect to at some personal level, instead of just doing something because its currently popular, I like to research the characters and therefore make my costumes more personalized.
I have also made costumes based on my own charters on MMOs that I play on my spare time.

Although plenty of people cosplay for money (being payed to attend events or sponsor certain products) I prefer dedicating my cosplays to the fun of the activity and for the experience. I enjoy seeing kids exited to interact with me at events, meeting others who enjoy the same fandom, and sharing tips and tricks with other fellow cosplayers.

You can see some of my cosplay work (from nothing to completion) on my public FaceBook page.
A few selected high resolution photos are also available at DeviantArt.
